The Peasant Evolution Producers' Co-Operative
Real Food Bus is a mobile cafe and farmshop that will be supplied and run by the dynamic local co-operative of smallholders 'Peasant Evolution Producers' Co-Operative' (PEPC). It will sell delicious and exciting street food as well as fruit, veg, milk, meat, charcuterie, cheese, bread, eggs, apple juice and preserves. Nearly all our food stuffs and ingredients will be local, organic and grown/reared by producers with an exceptionally high level of commitment to best environmental practice and husbandry. Many of them are off grid and the aim is that Real Food Bus would engage with its customers to tell them about how their food has been produced, what is happening seasonally on the farms, relevant forthcoming events etc.. We have bought our vehicle with a grant from Chalk and Cheese (a good-sized catering van that was used for organic pizzas) and are in the process of converting it to retain stainless steel work/serving surfaces, add a cooker and put in attractive wooden display shelves. Local artist Gill Barron will oversee the painting/lettering on the vehicle. We want Real Food Bus to be unique and look as good as its food tastes and are pleased to see that this adds a Dorset element to the current trend for the mobile and 'pop up' (see Street Kitchen and Veg Van in London etc..). Real Food Bus will start out by making a couple of regular weekly routes around Dorset - the aim is to stop at markets and outside of local schools, as well as villages that no longer have a shop or small towns that have lost their butcher/independent grocer and end the day with commuters at local train stations. We will also cater for events, parties and festivals and are going to provide the food at the People and Food Magazine party in March. Any producers who would like to be involved or people who would like to be visited by the Food Bus, please let us know. We are planning out our routes now. Watch this space...
